Topping:

Cake:

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and parchment-line a 9" round cake pan.
Make topping: Melt butter and brown sugar in a pan. Pour into cake pan. Arrange apple slices on top.
Mix dry ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
Cream butter & sugar: In a separate bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
Combine: Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to wet ingredients, mixing gently.
Assemble: Pour batter over apples and smooth the top.
Bake: 40–45 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool & flip: Let cool 10 minutes, then invert onto plate. Peel off parchment gently.
Notes
Best served slightly warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Use Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala apples for best flavor.
